About Elkes Carpet

Elkes Carpet is built on a legacy that started generations ago.

After returning home from the Korean War, our father began his journey in the flooring industry, learning carpet and floor covering installation. He was a natural — someone who could do just about anything. Driven to grow, he moved our family to Houston, Texas, where he worked on major projects, including installations at NASA, and later taught flooring installation at a trade school. He often said he learned just as much from teaching as he did from doing.

After more than a decade gaining experience, he returned home with a vision — to build something of his own. In the early 1970s, he opened a small flooring business that quickly grew into a true family operation.

Our mother became the heart of the business — answering phones, scheduling jobs, helping customers, and bringing a natural eye for color and design. Together, they built more than a company — they built a life. The business supported our family, created opportunities, and brought everyone together. It wasn’t uncommon for extended family — aunts, uncles, cousins — to all have a hand in the business at some point.

We grew up in it.

After school, weekends, summers — we were there. Learning, working, and eventually raising our own families around it. The business provided a good life — one that allowed our parents to travel the world and create lasting memories for all of us.

Like any real business, there were challenges. And like any real family, we faced loss. When our mother passed, and later our father, everything changed. Eventually, we made the difficult decision to close the business.

But the story didn’t end there.

Over time, we realized how much that business meant — not just as work, but as a foundation for our family. As we began to rebuild, we faced another loss — my brother, my partner, and my best friend.

At that point, the path forward wasn’t clear.

But one thought remained:
What would they want me to do?

So we pushed forward.

Today, Elkes Carpet is a continuation of that legacy — built on hard work, family values, and decades of real experience in the flooring industry. We’ve taken everything we learned and brought it into a modern approach, focused on providing high-quality carpet tile and flooring at wholesale value.

This isn’t just a business.

It’s a family story — still being written.
